After months of development, the newly formed Theatre Unleashed is set to make its Los Angeles debut with a one-night-only season kickoff, featuring its members in a variety show spectacular! Theatre Unleashed presents Theatre Unleashed starring... Theatre Unleashed!!! marks the company’s first public appearance and will take place at Hollywood hotspot M Bar on Thursday, May 1 at 8 p.m.

Serving as an opportunity for the public to meet and greet Theatre Unleashed, the variety show will highlight the many talents of the company’s members, several of whom have come from other local theatre groups. With a “Monty Python meets The Muppet Show” feel, the show features one-acts, scenes, burlesque, vaudeville, original songs and the return of the Dead Beat Poets Society. Plus, patrons will bear witness to a woman with a shocking, special talent few others in the world can match!

“What we’ve cooked up for this first show... let me just say, I’m an emcee for the thing and I can’t even begin to tell you what’s all going on,” said Andrew Moore, Director of Development for Theatre Unleashed. “It’s going to be a blast from start to finish.”

Hosted by stage veterans Moore and Phillip Kelly, the show will also provide information on the company, from its mission statement to its members to even the origins of the “paper plate” viral marketing strategy that is causing quite a local buzz. The “plate faces,” which have made their rounds both online and in key locations around the city, will be revealed at the show.

The show will also introduce the first season. With an emphasis on providing the highest quality theatre, Theatre Unleashed has set an ambitious Season One schedule, complete with original works and a popular classic mainstay. What We Should Have Said: An Anthology of Original Works for L.A. will run from June 12-29, followed by The Tempest, Sept. 5-28. The Tempest serves as acclaimed Director Jeff Soroka’s follow up to last year’s highly successful A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Theatre Unleashed will round out its season with an original full length in October and November.

“It takes a certain level of foolishness to prosper as a theatre company in Los Angeles and I am pleased to say Theatre Unleashed is full of such fools,” said Kelly, the company’s artistic director. “Fortunately, we only pick shows and artists to work with that inspire us and challenge us as artists. I haven’t seen a community of creators and storytellers so thrilled to bring their individual voices to a theatre company.”
