Jim Martyka kicked off his acting career by playing Pooh Bear in a production of Winnie The Pooh and he’s never looked back. Jim has starred in dozens of critically acclaimed theatre productions, playing a variety of roles from Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Florindo in The Venetian Twins to Fred Gayley in Miracle on 34th Street to Dick in Play It Again Sam. He also directed and starred in the original play The Audition by Joel Orff.
Jim has also worked in numerous independent films, playing characters that include a bumbling thief (Thieves and Assassins), a sarcastic emo-rocker (Malaise and Apathy), and a lonely man who finds solace in his newly found crack addiction (Eventually Everybody Hits).
You may have seen Jim on YouTube in the popular mock commercial BlondeStar as well as national commercials for Pontiac, Best Buy and Buffalo Wild Wings or on The Discovery Channel series Reasonable Doubt, where he played incompetent attorney John Atti.
Jim is the founder of the Dead Beat Poets Society and co-founder of the Twin Cities Actor’s Forum, a support group of over 500 actors, writers and directors. After serving two years on the senior staff at Write Act Repertory, Jim is thrilled to take part in the launching of Theatre Unleashed.
Jim is also an accomplished journalist, ghostwriter, editor, teacher, musician, poet and a former Guinness World Record Holder for watching the most consecutive hours of movies without sleeping (53 and a half hours).
