super fun adventure time

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting most of the cast of the SET Group's produciton of Friends Like These in front of the LA Public Library in NoHo, along with their director and SM, as well as Adrianne from LARP Alliance and a few brave volunteers to introduce them to one of my favorite hobbies - LARPing. Using an original rules system I've been tinkering with off and on, we proceeded to spend the next few hours on a grand adventure to retrieve the Holy Gr- er, the Duke of Greenbriar's Favorite Grail. The brave adventurers had to overcome a variety of challenges - defeat a dark knight in a duel to the pain, answer the bridge hag's questions three, destroy The Rabbit From That Movie, figure out how to open a talking door, invade an outpost of Freedom Fighters and destroy a large stone golem. All so the Duke could enjoy his cookies with a grail of milk. Check out the pics!
I'm happy to say that everyone had a great time. Unfortunately, not everyone in the cast could be there (we were missing the new Brian and new Nicole), but we were fortunate enough that Trevor (the new Jesse) and Jay (this production's stage manager), were both willing to take a chance on this new experience and join in the fray. Even director David Wisehart got in on the action at one point. Everyone had a great time and I think the cast left with a much better understanding of some of the show's spirit.
I just want to give a big thank you to Adrianne, Ryan, Dave and Mike for volunteering to come out and spend part of their Saturday as my game staff, especially on short notice. Thank you, guys! You are all so incredibly awesome, I can't even put it in to words. Also, huge thanks to David and the SET Group for producing my play - I'm so excited to see what you guys do with it!
So, before I wrap this up, I promised in my last post that I'd share the adventure I'd written on here. Well, here it is:
I first wrote this just over a year ago in the wee hours of the morning on the day I ran it for the world premiere cast. As such, the writing gets punchier and punchier as it gets further along. I've posted an unedited copy here for your enjoyment. If you want to run this adventure for yourself, please feel free! Just be sure to send me pics! =)
