LOS ANGELES –Theatre Unleashed is proud to announce Through a Caffeine Haze, a series of original works that runs Mondays and Tuesdays from Sept. 9-23. Continuing in its mission to push artistic boundaries, the company is producing the show without the use of a traditional stage, choosing instead to perform these works in coffee shops throughout L.A.

Through a Caffeine Haze is comprised of two different shows (Buzzed and Double Shot), each featuring three original works that have one thing in common: they all take place in a coffee shop. As such, the company's producers decided to try a nontraditional approach to presenting these pieces. First, they decided to take the show on the road, performing at multiple venues around the city to give these shows and their writers more exposure. Second, they decided to make the set as realistic as possible, by having the cast perform in actual coffee shops, mixed in with patrons and bringing a greater sense of reality and intimacy to the show itself.

"Coffee shops are fascinating places where stories unfold before your very eyes... but just out of ear shot," said Artistic Director Phillip Kelly. "These particular stories deal with the absurdities and sometimes harsh realities that one has to deal with. It's our hope that the coffee shop venue will make these various themes more immediate for the audience."

Through a Caffeine Haze compliments the company's Main Stage production of The Tempest, which runs Thursdays through Sundays from Sept. 5-28 at Studio/Stage in Los Angeles. It is the first in a series of experimental artistic projects that Theatre Unleashed plans to unveil over the next few years. The next project will be the resurgence of the revolutionary Dead Beat Poets Society... details to come soon.
