Theatre Unleashed opens its 2014 season with one of the greatest and most controversial satires of all time, Tartuffe. The religious fraud Tartuffe has fooled the wealthy but naive Orgon, who is ready to award him his daughter’s hand in marriage. But the wily and wicked "imposter" has his sights set on even loftier goals, including seducing his host’s wife, ruining the family name and taking over the household. Molière’s signature work, using Bolt’s daring and dynamite translation, is aggressively presented by classics master director Jeff Soroka, who explores in rapid-fire fashion the themes of obsession, control, gullibility, the absurdity of zealotry and above all, hypocrisy.
Theatre Unleashed is turning SIX! We know! We didn't think we'd make it this long, either! So, let's celebrate! Join us for our traditional birthday show - one of our immensely popular 24-Hour Theatre Events! The evening before the show, writers will be given a specific topic. They are then given a single night to write a short play. It will immediately be handed over to a director and a few actors who have only that morning and afternoon to produce their piece. Theatre Unleashed will then showcase the end results that night. These 24-Hour Theatre Events are an L.A. must-see. There will be cake!
Tales of an Unsettled City: Redemption is a Late Night Series show consisting of short comedic and dramatic vignettes interwoven to explore the many definitions of the term “redemption” and how it relates to not only who we are as individuals, but also where we’ve been, what we’re doing and the consequences and/or growth we will experience in our unforeseeable future.
